For just over two months, between 11 October and 12 December theFTSE-100 had oscillated between 3,935 and 4,190.  But on 13December it lurched down to 3,878 and is now likely to retest thesix-year low of 3,671, posted on 24 September. Last month the IT sector was enjoying a sharp recovery but thislooks to have petered out, with  IT Hardware  unchanged at235, although Software & Computer services did gain 2.3% to 353,which makes for three consecutive rising months after it touched its278 low.
