While all the talk is of Large Hadron Colliders there's little doubt that the markets dodged one black hole of their own when Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were rescued by the US Government. Yet investors barely had time to draw breath before Lehman Brothers, a 158 year old US investment bank, filed for bankruptcy while Merrill Lynch (another potential victim) was taken over by Bank of America. Given such a turbulent backdrop we are reasonably satisfied that the fall by the Trader Portfolio was limited to 1.2%, which compares with a 1.4% drop by the All-Share index.
