A change to a new accounting regime (from IAS39 to IFRS9) has flattered headline half year results from pawnbroker H&T, showing an 11% increase in pretax profit to £6.1m. Without that alteration profits would have been unchanged. Overall progress reflected an increase in gross profit from the core pawn broking side from £18.9m to £20.1m, driven by an increase in gross pledge book from £44m to £47.8m and the personal loans side (profit +£1.3m). This was offset by a £2.6m (+11%) increase in opex related to store costs, expansion of the personal loan service line and some one-off costs, says broker Numis.
