Shares in pawnbroker H&T surged back towards £3 after it posted very strong interims with pretax profit rising 71%  to £14.5m, while eps increased 79% to 29.4p. Net debt fell from £42.3m to £30.4m.The core pawnbroking side enjoyed a 10% rise in the pledge book to £37.3m, while gross profit rose  42% to £17.9m. This comprised an unchanged £11.5m through the  pawn service charge (interest earned from the pledge book and surplus auction proceeds) and a massive increase in pawnbroking scrap gross profit from £1m to £6.4m thanks to the higher gold price and a carried forward contribution from the previous year's auctions.
