Pawnbroker, H&T has enjoyed a very strong finish and now expects pretax profit to come in at the top end of forecasts for the year to 31 December. All business segments are expected to show double digit growth driven by existing stores, as well as the addition of 17 new stores in 2009. The strong performance has also come thanks to its emerging gold buying operation and the Board expects scrap profits to have tripled, led by higher average gold prices and higher volumes. H&T is understandably cautious that the  gold buying side may not repeat this in 2010. That said, underlying profits will be boosted by further new openings, while the continued tightness of credit should keep demand strong in pawnbroking.Broke ...
