After a period in the doldrums, shares in pawn broker H&T surged 41p in two days following an upbeat pre-close trading update. Results for the year to 31 December will be ahead of expectations with like-for-like retail sales up 3% driven by a combination of a rise in the Sterling gold price helping scrap sales and better than expected autumn trading. Going forward, this momentum will be further helped by a strong expansion program, with 10 new stores opening and a further two being acquired in H2 '08.In reaction, broker Numis has raised its pretax profit forecast by £1m to £11.2m, with eps lifting to 22.2p.
