Pawnbroker H&T is trading its proverbial socks off due to a reduction in small sum, short term credit suppliers limiting consumer options. In its latest update on 29th September it noted a record month for pawn lending in August in what is seasonally the quieter period with the pledge book increasing to c. £90m up from £85m at 30 June 2022 and £67m in December ‘21. As a pawnbroker, H&T is a secured lender (on gold items and jewellery at a loan to value of 65%) with no affordability checks required. However, growth of this magnitude requires more cash (i.e. working capital) as the loans tie up money for up to six months at a time. Therefore it has raised £16.9m gross by issuing 3,925,000 at 425p (almost 10% additional shares). ...
