Hill & Smith's transformation into an international business is almost complete with final results for 2012 showing 76% of profits coming outside the UK, including 50% from the USA. Results themselves showed turnover rising 8% to £441m, while pretax profit increased 39% to £35.2m. Eps was up 12% to 38.9p, while strong cash generation drove net debt down from £104m to just under £87m. Infrastructure Products, where turnover rose 16% to £320m but operating profit fell 6% to £18.7m, was a mixed bag with roads (supply of safety barriers, gantries and lighting columns) suffering a 37% profit drop to £5.7m due to the Olympics as well as technical issues (now rectified) concerning a new lightweight gantry design.
