Shares in Hill & Smith ran up to a new high of 365p after the transport infrastructure products firm issued a Q3 update that said earnings would be at the top end of analysts' expectations.  Infrastructure is seeing record demand  for its Variogard temporary road barriers in the UK and the economic stimulus package in the US is expected to help this product gain traction in the US in 2010. Demand for variable message signs on motorways and lighting columns is also strong. In its other divisions, galvanising services has seen an improvement in the second half, while the only blot is its small building and construction products business, which continues to suffer on the back of low activity.
