In spite of the recent turbulence, shares in utilities re-seller Telecom Plus still show remarkable nine-fold gains on the 152.5p at which they were originally tipped. Its success is based on a low cost business model where it uses self employed distributors to sign up new customers (in return for a commission) for mobile, broadband, fixed line telecoms and gas & electricity services, all taken care of by a single bill. Customers are encouraged to take multiple services in return for greater discounts. The group also gained access to cheaper energy in January when it took ownership of certain customers being supplied electricity and gas from nPower, while contemporaneously signing a new 20-year energy supply agreement with the latter ...
