As the chart below shows, shares in the Restaurant Group have been impressive performers in recent months, with the catalyst being an astonishing 30% upgrade to earnings forecasts for this year and next, following very strong interim results. While the Restaurant Group is best known for Garfunkels, its chain of city centre-based restaurants, it has changed quite considerably since new management arrived in 2001, with the emphasis switching to new casual dining formats in edge-of-town locations. This has already triggered a remarkable improvement in the company's fortunes with pretax profit increasing from £15.6m that year to nearly £49m in 2008.
