Given the continuing headwind against retailers, tile specialist Topps Tiles produced reasonable trading figures at its AGM, with like-for-like sales improving from minus 4.7% to minus 4.4% for the first thirteen weeks of the new financial year, while equally significant was that gross margins continued to improve. The good news going forward is that like-for-like comparatives will shortly become easier, so underlying sales should start to grow again. Topps’ roll-out program also continues to chug along nicely, with five new openings so far and the pipeline remains strong. Based on earnings forecasts of 13p for this year and 13.6p in 2007 the shares trade on a prospective PE of 17.5, falling to 16.8, which looks fair value ...
