Topps Tiles, the UK’s largest specialist tile retailer, will always command a place in stock market folklore, given that the shares gained an incredible fourteen-fold from the time of their float in June 1997 right up to their peak of 310p almost ten years later. While life since then has been anything but plain sailing following the Lehman Brothers collapse and subsequent credit crunch, the ingredients for a sustained recovery now seem in place. In particular, the recovery in housing transactions and prices, allied to improving job prospects, has created a self-feeding cycle of improving consumer confidence, which is exactly what Topps needs to encourage its customers to open their purse strings once again.
