Another good month for the shares, which registered a new high of 122p,, on the back of an encouraging year-end update. In managed pubs like-for-like sales grew 2.2% (food: +2.4%; drink: 2.1%), while operating margins were slightly ahead, a good performance given the poor summer weather. The firm completed 25 new-build restaurants with investment returns remaining strong and above original targets, while the development pipeline is healthy with 20-25 sites planned for 2013. In tenanted pubs operating profits will be around 3% ahead of last year, principally due to the growth of its franchised estate, which now constitutes around 500 pubs.
