General nerves caused the share price drop despite inline interims, a resilient performance given cost of living pressures. Pub operating profit improved 8% to £43m while revenue was £407m, up 10% on FY’19 with like-for-like sales growth of 10.7%. Underlying sales remain just 3% below FY’19. After debt interest (£50m) it made a small pretax loss. Operating margin fell 0.2% to 10.6% due to a significant increase in costs, notably energy. Profit from associates (its 40% owned Carlsberg joint venture) was £2.2m, up from a loss a year ago, but it paid a dividend of £10m after the period end. The balance sheet is a dog’s breakfast.
