Pubs operator Marstons put out a solid update with all divisions enjoying growth even though the World Cup was broadly “neutral.†In Destination & Premium (which includes its managed pubs, new builds and premium brands such as Pitcher & Piano), like-for-like sales for the 41 weeks to 19 July rose 4.1% including food sales growth of 4.2% and “wet†sales growth of 3.5%. Operating margin is slightly ahead of last year, while it’s on track to open 27 new pubs. In its Taverns division, predominantly comprising tenanted pubs, like-for-like sales fell 3% while its leased business (mainly tenanted pubs) turnover was also 3% ahead.
