Since the EU referendum the weak pound has sparked overseas interest in various UK firms backed by strong property portfolios and there has been a flurry of takeovers including Alton Towers owner Merlin Entertainment and housebuilder Telford Homes.Last summer UK pubs group EI (formerly Enterprise Inns) was snapped up for a princely 11.4x EBITDA profits and most recently CK Noble, the holding company of Hong Kong’s richest man, Li Ka-shing, has just made an agreed £2.7bn offer for Greene King (owner of beer brands IPA and Old Speckled Hen) for 9.5x EBITDA.
