Marstons' update for the 16 weeks to 22 January was robust with managed pubs increasing like-for-like sales 2.1%, including 4.4% growth in food and 1.2% in “wet†sales. However, there were stomach churning lurches one way and then the other with high single digit declines in parts of the snowy period offset by a superb 12 day Christmas period (+11.2% like-to-like). In the tenanted side profit trends have continued to improve with like-for-like profits estimated to be 1% below last year, versus the 4% decline in 2010.
