News of another outstanding trading performance from Topps Tiles hastriggered a 31% rise in the shares since November to a new high of 242p. As telegraphed in its pre-close trading statement, pretax profit for the 53 weeks ending 2 October rose 79% to £33.8m, while earnings increased 95% to 11.3p and this momentum has continued with  like-for-like sales up 16% in the first seven weeks of the new year. Despite spending £8.6m to buy back shares and a record £11.5m on capex,it still increased net cash balances by £8m to just over £23m.
