It's a truism in investing that the most dull sounding businesses often make the best returns and Essentra (formerly Filtrona), which makes and distributes millions of small but essential components made from plastic, fibre and foam, is a member of this happy club. In its update covering the period from 1 July to 14 October, year on year revenues soared a mighty 23%, of which the like-for-like element was 9%. All areas galloped ahead with the largest division, components and protection, which supplies items such as plugs, threads and fasteners, increasing sales 9%.
