The shares stormed to a new high of 215p after Elementis unveiled strong interims and a new special dividend. For the six months to 30 June pretax profit rose almost 12% on flattish sales of US$401.3m. Operating margins jumped 1.9% to 20.1% while net cash was US$29.9m. Within Speciality Products, which makes additives to enhance the performance of liquids, sales grew 4% to US$247m, while profit increased 5% to US$52m. Strong growth in the US in industrial coatings (+14%), oilfield drilling (+28%) and personal care (+5%) more than offset Europe where sales fell 9% while  turnover was unchanged in Asia.
