Hollywood Bowl (BOWL), one of two ten pin bowling companies to float during 2016, has just seen its shares spring to new highs. With 60 bowling outlets and a capitalisation of £342m, it could be an exciting ride. While its quoted rival, Ten Entertainment (TEG; 226.5p), has grown through acquisition, BOWL has generated the higher returns on investment through an organic approach with two large openings a year and a relentless focus on sweating existing assets harder. Finance director Laurence Keen, who we spoke with over the month, gives the example of how his company is increasing bowling lane utilisation by trialling modest price discounts during the “shoulder period” – that is 10am-12pm on weekends  (just ahead of the really busy time) ...
