In a documentary entitled “Real Storage Wars,” the BBC alighted on our national predilection for buying and hoarding stuff and in one colourful example a collector of Star Wars memorabilia turned in desperation to a self storage firm when his loft, shed and summer house were bulging at the seams and there was no room left for his three kids. But this is no isolated case, with the BBC noting that we spend nearly £0.5bn a year on renting self storage space in the UK, a figure which should keep rising as the rebound in economic growth feeds gains in consumer confidence.
