For two and a half decades online retail ventures have generally commanded significant premiums to their bricks-and-mortar cousins, with the former not burdened by property leases or fit outs and benefiting from fewer staff. But as stores have enjoyed uninterrupted training post lockdown, digital has lost some of its shine and Moonpig’s shares fell from a high of 488p in June 2021 to just 122.5p now, leaving the prospective PE at 9.6, falling to 7.8 in the year starting 1 May. The group sells personalized greetings cards through its website moonpig.com and via its smartphone apps and has hoovered up a 70% UK market share and 65%, via the acquisition of Greetz, in the Netherlands.
