A number of one-off factors, notably a change in revenue recognition following the introduction of its “free cancellation” of rooms option, saw shares in Hostelworld, the online booking platform for hostels, fall after it announced soft interim results.For the six months ended 30 June, revenue decreased 9% to Eu42.6m and EBITDA fell 24% to Eu9.8m. Analysts note that this was mainly due to its cancellation option, which started end April in Europe (worldwide from July) and meant Eu4.2m of revenues were prudently deferred.
