Telecom Plus - Pretax profit forecast upgraded from £14m to £16.7m

Shares in Telecom Plus, one of our 2008 New Year NAPS, have rocketed after the company, which re-sells various telephony and energy services, noted that its current performance is running ahead of current market expectations. Thanks to a canny marketing initiative including the offer of a ‘free’ laptop and more competitive mobile phone tariffs, customer numbers, which had previously fallen for the past 18 months, rose from 204,763 to 212,712 in the quarter ended 31 December. Meanwhile, the number of services added totalled 16,000 to 568,742. This compares very favourably to the 10,450 added in the whole of the first half.
