Billionaire US investor Warren Buffett famously once said he would contact his shrink the next time he thought about buying shares in an airline following a rare disaster but that was nearly 30 years ago and times have changed with the octogenarian reportedly punting nearly US$10bn on American, Delta, United and South West Airlines earlier this year. That reflects a remarkable turnaround in the industry, with all four US airlines reporting record profits thanks to post financial crisis capacity discipline, depressed labour costs and cheap oil.
