Babcock - Update smashes forecasts; shares race to 860p

The shares soared above £8 for the first time in seven years after Babcock’s post-close update smashed forecasts. Full year revenues are expected to be £4.83bn (+11%) and operating profit of £363m is 17% higher and a 5% beat. Operating margins rose 0.5% to 7.5% as, crucially, there’s been no addition to the Type 31 provisioning. Underlying free cash flow of £153m beat forecasts by 18% and impressively came even after a £40m injection (effectively doubling the original £40m payment) into its pension deficit in return for the halving of future payments to £20m for the next six years.
