Coats, the world’s leading industrial threads and zips manufacturer, unveiled slightly better than expected interim results with revenues up 5% to US$788m (2% organic) while pretax profit increased 10% to US$91.9m. Adjusted eps rose 19% to 3.6 cents thanks to lower tax and pension finance charges.Within its main industrial division (88% sales and almost 100% profit), the traditional apparel and footwear side grew underlying sales by 3% as key Asian markets performed strongly, but the star was the smaller performance materials part, which grew 21% year-on-year (5% organic and 16% from acquisitions).
