Bloomsbury Publishing - Cash infusion from Anthropic settlement

Following the US District Court’s US$1.5bn class-action settlement against AI developer Anthropic for unauthorized training usage, the court listed 14,087 Bloomsbury titles as covered. Compensation is proposed at about US$3,000 per work (before attorney fees and other expenses), to be split equally between the author and the publisher. In other words, Bloomsbury expects gross proceeds of US$42m. Net of legals and an equal split with authors, this yields an estimated £14m net cash, expanding its projected FY28 net cash from £49m to £63m, c. 12% of market capitalisation.
