In the summer of 2013, Frederic Vecchioli, a French executive with an eye for real estate nobody else wanted, took the helm of a modest storage chain in Britain. His bet was disarmingly simple: city dwellers would keep acquiring more things than they had room for - and they would pay handsomely for someone else to store it all. A decade later, Safestore has quietly become the largest owner and operator of self-storage facilities in Britain and France.
