I’ve followed Informa for more than two decades, long enough to see a once fairly modest collection of trade journals and business databases reinvent itself into a global giant. Back in the aftermath of the dot-com bust, the company’s reputation rested largely on specialist titles such as the venerable maritime newspaper, the Lloyd’s List, alongside reference-based databases and a clutch of conferences in finance and telecoms. My last recommendation came two months after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, at an opportunistic 173p and the shares went on to climb steadily before a peak at 480p in 2007.
