The shares have inched towards 400p after finals beat expectations with pretax profit up 10% to £29.1m. Eps increased 5% to 50.9p, reflecting higher interest and tax. Pawnbroking stood out with gross profit rising 13% to £102.3m, driven by record new customers, particularly in Q4, but also an increase in the mean and median loan values to £360 (FY23: £245) and £245 (FY23: 201), respectively. Customers borrowed slightly more (helped by rising gold prices) and the proportion of larger loans, typically for business purposes, increased from 13% to 18% following the acquisition of Maxcroft.
