Weir has announced a strong first quarter with good revenue growth supported by a 14% jump in order input against the prior year (or 5% excluding acquisitions). The minerals & mining division showed order input up 18% against the prior year and ahead of expectations. Margins were in line with expectations and the outlook for global mining capital expenditure remains strong.  Slightly disappointing though (and what made the shares fall out of bed) was the oil & gas side where orders fell 5% overall and a whopping 26% on a like-for-like basis but the saving grace was that operational efficiencies, together with increasing aftermarket mix, meant margins were in line with expectations.
