On the Beach has produced a resilient first-half performance in what was undeniably a choppy environment. Revenue came in at £52.9m with pre-tax profit at £2.3m, reflecting a temporary softening in demand after the Middle East flare-up in March. OTB’s unique “booked” rather than “travelled” accounting methodology effectively led to a “V” shaped decline but more positively also means the eventual recovery will be just as dramatic. CEO Shaun Morton deserves considerable credit for his well-timed move into City Breaks.
