Associated British Foods - Primark to open in U.S.

One of the few shares to hit new highs is Associated British Foods, which released in-line interims, showing pretax profit and eps rising 4% and 10% respectively to £468m and 45.8p. Primark is going great guns with sales rising 14% to £2,278m and profits increasing 26% to £298m. Retail selling space increased by 0.6m sq. ft. and at 1 March it was trading from 269 stores and 9.6m sq. ft. What particularly excited investors though was news that it will start opening stores in the North East of the USA, initially at the 70,000 sq. ft. historic Burnham building, which is currently being renovated, in Boston.
