Buy-and-build veterinary surgeries business CVS will have been relieved that the outcome of the Competition & Markets Authority investigation into drug pricing of all the large vet chains in the UK wasn’t worse. Provisional proposals include making practices more transparent by requiring them to publish prices, providing written estimates for treatments over £500, and automatically providing written prescriptions to allow owners to buy medicine more cheaply elsewhere. The inquiry found prices have risen considerably faster than general inflation and that pet owners are often unaware of costs and have difficulty comparing services.
