The shares briefly spiked to a new high of 417p after Mears said that thanks to strong trading it now expects pretax profit to be modestly ahead of the prior year. As a result the full year will be modestly ahead of expectations with pretax profit of no less than £54m from sales of £1,055m. The first half enjoyed solid growth in maintenance activities led by regulatory drivers (Awaab’s law etc) and is now normalising after the previous spike in asylum seeker housing “solutions.” It was also underpinned by 100% contract retention.
