The old Yorkshire saying, “Where there’s muck there’s brass” is perhaps more accurate than many realize with the UK quoted quarry sector having yielded some shiny nuggets including CRH, 3640p, which has 15-bagged from 225p-3766p between 1993 and June 2021; Aggregate Industries, which jumped from 50p in 1993 to its eventual take-over by Holcim at 140p in ’05; and most recently, Breedon Aggregates, which has sky rocketed from 16.5p in 2008 to a recent peak of 112p. The common denominator is savvy deal-makers at the helm of roll-up “buy & build” growth vehicles, exploiting humble aggregates such as sand, gravel, clay, limestone, concrete and so on.
