The shares touched a new high of 1284p after results were accompanied by the US$140m acquisition of a 79% interest in eLocal, a fast growing Home Experts business that connects customers with local trades (plumbers, electricians, handymen etc.) and takes Homeserve into the large US market.eLocal has three business lines: lead generation; a directory model (like its existing Checkatrade business in the UK) and “ping and post,” where customers calling affiliate sites are redirected to its own website. eLocal looks a terrific find; it has c.11,000 paying tradesmen, plus a free directory of 3.2m trades people, delivering revenues up 40% (all organic) to US$80m in FY’19.
